Professor Muhammad Akbar Rhamdhani is Director of the Fluid and Process Dynamics Group and Program Leader of Net Zero Carbon Materials and Processes at Swinburne, where he also leads the Energy Transition Metals Research Flagship. He is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Sustainable Metallurgy (Springer Nature, USA) and a Professor in Extractive Metallurgy and Metals Recycling with a PhD from McMaster University, Canada. His career includes academic appointments at the Institute of Technology Bandung (ITB) and the University of Queensland, with visiting roles at KU Leuven, CSIRO, and ITB. His research focuses on metal refining, impurities removal, new process development, high-temperature thermodynamics and kinetics, and low-carbon metal production, with current directions in urban resource recycling, decarbonisation, rare earth pyrometallurgy, solar metallurgy, and astro metallurgy. He collaborates extensively with industry in Australia, Europe, and Indonesia and has received multiple international awards, including from TMS (USA), IOM3 (UK), ASM International (USA), and MetSoc (Canada).
